Heat pumps

What is included with rental?
  • The device and installation by certified professionals.
  • Preventive maintenance every 3 years: filters will be cleaned and a full visual inspection will be carried out*.
  • The lease includes a 7-year term. After 7 years, the contract is renewed month by month. Your device is under warranty as long as you remain on a rental contract with us.
  • Parts and repairs required during the lease term.
  • Transfer of lease: If you sell your home or move, it is important to declare the lease to the new owner or tenant. The new owner or tenant will be responsible for the remaining term of the lease.
  • Option of terminating the lease by purchasing the device in line with a depreciation table according to the device’s age.

* In line with technical criteria set by HydroSolution.

What happens when my rental agreement expires?

If your heat pump is still working properly and in good condition after the 7-year contract period, you have the option of continuing your monthly payments to extend your term, or buying back the unit.

If you choose to extend your term, your contract renews month after month* and you remain under warranty. We also continue to maintain your heat pump every three years. If you decide to buy back your unit, the amount will be calculated according to a depreciation table. Your heat pump will be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, which is 12 years from the date of manufacture. However, you will now be responsible for labor costs.

*HydroSolution reserves the right to increase monthly rates after the 7-year contract.

What is a BTU/H?

The British Thermal Unit (BTU) is a unit of heat that defines the quantity of heat necessary to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit at a constant pressure of one atmospheric unity.

What is the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)?

The energy-efficiency ratio (EER) corresponds to the efficiency of an air conditioner at 35 oC (outdoor) and 26 oC (indoor) with a humidity level of 50%. The higher the EER, the more efficient it is and as a result, the lower the energy consumption. A 1-point difference in the EER rating corresponds to approximately a 4% difference on the cost of electricity.

What is the Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF)?

The heating seasonal performance factor corresponds to the efficiency of a heating system at 8 oC (outdoor) and 20 oC (indoor). The higher the HSPF, the more efficient it is and as a result, the lower the energy consumption. A 1-point difference in the HSPF rating corresponds to approximately an 8% difference on the cost of electricity.

What is the coefficient of performance (COP)?

This is the ratio between the energy consumed and the quantity of heat produced. The higher the COP, the more efficient it is in heating mode. A COP of 3 means the device will consume 1 KW/h to produce a heat output of KW/h.

What is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER)?

This measures an air conditioner’s performance at 28 oC (outdoor) and 20 oC (indoor). The higher the SEER, the more efficient it is and as a result, the less energy it consumes. A 1-point difference in the SEER rating corresponds to approximately a 4% difference on the cost of electricity. This measure is not commonly used because it is assessed in variable conditions and is therefore less reliable than the EER rating.

What is Inverter technology?

Inverter technology modulates the heat pump in order to maintain a more constant temperature. The device can then reach the desired temperature more quickly while remaining constant by regulating the speed of the compressor. The motor therefore does not come to a full stop as often and the temperature remains more stable. This increases the lifespan of the device and results in lower costs.

ENERGY STAR is an internationally renowned certification system attesting to a product’s energy efficiency. A heat pump with this designation must reach a minimum SEER rating of 15, an EER rating of 12.5, and an HSPF of 8.5.

What are the differences between a heat pump and an air conditioner?

In addition to cooling your space in the summer, a heat pump can provide heat in the winter. An air conditioner only works a few months out of the year. A wall-mounted heat pump relies on the same principle as the air conditioner to transform the hot air outside into cool air during the summer months and turns cold air into hot air in the winter. It can therefore be used year-round because it reuses the energy of the cold outside to heat your home thereby lowering your electricity bill.

Is a single wall-mounted unit sufficient for a home with multiple levels?

That really depends on your home’s architecture, size, and layout. It also depends on the number of floors and closed rooms in comparison with open spaces. Our multi-zone models are designed to provide you with consistent comfort no matter the layout of your home. Our experts are available to help you pick the heat pump that meets your needs. A free pre-visit can help our expert determine the right model for you.

What is the difference between a single-zone heat pump and a multi-zone heat pump?

A single-zone heat pump provides comfort year-round in a specific room. It comes with one indoor and one outdoor unit. The multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump provides comfort year-round in many rooms. It comes with several indoor units but only one outdoor unit. This model is perfect for homes with no ventilation ducts and more than one floor or several closed rooms. The multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump also takes up less space on an electric panel.

How do I know how many BTUs are required to keep me comfortable?

To find out how many BTUs are required, calculate your surface area (length x width), multiply by 10 and round up to the corresponding number of BTUs. For instance, an area with 1,000 sq. ft. requires 12,000 BTUs.

Example: 26 ft x 38 ft = 988 sq. ft.
988 X 10 = 9,880 > rounded up = 10,000
Number of BTUs required = 12,000 (higher number)

Can I get a heat pump from HydroSolution if I am a tenant?

Yes, but you need your landlord’s authorization, as the contract will be in his name and he will be responsible for payments.

Can my outdoor unit be installed on the ground?

Yes, but you’ll have to carry out the work before the refrigeration technicians arrive. If you cannot install it directly on the existing structure, you must install some sort of support such as patio stones or a concrete structure. You will be responsible for preparing the ground for the installation of the unit.

Are the wall-mounted units installed by specialists?

Our refrigeration technicians are specialized in the installation of ventilation and air conditioners.

Do you provide installation everywhere?

We offer our services in Greater Montreal, Quebec City, Gatineau, the South Shore, Mauricie, the Eastern Townships and Saguenay.

What are the payment options available?

We offer purchase or rental options for all heat pumps listed on our website.

Are you eligible to receive financial assistance?

If you buy or rent a Performance model wall-mounted heat pump from HydroSolution, you could receive up to $2,568 in financial assistance as part of the LogisVert Program.

This financial assistance, offered by Hydro-Québec, will be provided to you by HydroSolution in one lump sum when you rent your heat pump.

Clients who are eligible to receive financial assistance consent to HydroSolution sending their personal information to Hydro-Québec. To receive financial assistance, all conditions must be met.

Following the first installation, can my heat pump be moved to another location?
Unfortunately, this is not possible because moving the heat pump could damage your home. If you want to move the heat pump despite the risks, HydroSolution will not be held liable for damages or costs incurred by this change. If you rent your heat pump, doing so will be considered a breach of your agreement and you will have to purchase your heat pump at its residual value. However, if you sell your home, you can transfer the lease agreement to the new owner by including a statement about the lease for the heat pump in the declaration of the seller and in the deed of sale.
What is NEEP?

The Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the fair and affordable reduction of  building sector greenhouse gas emissions. Canadian standards for the manufacture of products such as heat pumps are based on NEEP certification. To obtain NEEP certification, manufacturers send their products to the NPO for energy efficiency testing. For more details, visit the NEEP website.
